GenGIS is a bioinformatics application that allows users to combine digital map data with information about biological sequences collected from the environment. GenGIS is a bioinformatics application that allows users to combine digital map data with information about biological sequences collected from the environment. GenGIS provides a 3D graphical interface in which the user can navigate and explore the data, as well as a Python interface that allows easy scripting of statistical analyses using the Rpy libraries.
Below you can find information about the software, data sources, tutorials, and the manual. The manual is still under development, but the tutorials give a good overview of how to use the software.

Announcements
- (July 6, 2010) GenGIS places 2nd in the iEvoBio visualisation challenge.
- (June 24, 2010) Data and scripts for creating a time series of the H1N1pdm sequencing effort from March, 2009 to May, 2010 are now available here.
- (June 24, 2010) We are happy to release an updated version of our movieHelper script. It resolves a known issue with creating videos under Windows 7.
- (June 24, 2010) An issue which prevented time series from being played reliably on Windows 7 has bee resolved (see here for details).
- (June 17, 2010) We are now maintaining a list of known bugs (mainly platform-specific issues).
- (June 3, 2010) GenGIS v1.07 release for Windows and OS X. New features and bug fixes can be found here.
- (May 11, 2010) Join our mailing list to keeping informed about GenGIS developments.
- (May 5, 2010) MapMaker v1.0 released for Windows XP/Vista/7. Provides easy access to high-resolution GeoTIFF maps.

We are building a gallery of example applications using GenGIS, including tracking of the current H1N1 outbreak and the spread of HIV-1 subtype B in Europe.

If reporting a bug, please provide as much information as possible and a simplified version of the data set which causes the bug. This will allow us to quickly resolve the issue.
